Footprint Architects were appointed to design a scheme for the refurbishment and extension of Heathlands Primary School located at West Howe, Bournemouth. The existing accommodation included a nursery, reception, Sure Start centre and primary classrooms with adjacent admin and staff rooms; all set out over single-storey ground floor level only.

The primary school now incorporates a specialist Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) unit within its site and existing buildings. Two new modular buildings have been constructed on the site providing additional accommodation for both the primary school and ASD unit.

The existing school has been refurbished externally with new windows and doors, and new roof coverings where required. Internal refurbishment includes re-modelling of the classroom wing and redecoration of the majority of the existing school. The existing annex to the south has been demolished. Refurbishment of existing services includes the heating and hot and cold water systems. The Project was completed March 2014.
